We are alarmed that 2,896 Lumad children will be denied of their right to education when the Aquino government closes down Lumad community schools in Davao del Norte.

State forces tail, harass members of people's organizations

Dear friends,
Please join us in our call to stop harassment and surveillance of members and staff of progressive people’s organizations by military agents. The acts are attempts to disrupt the organizations’ activities and terrorize people involved in development and human rights work.  The three incidents below happened in a span of three weeks. 

Manobo activist victim of enforced disappearance:John Calaba missing, last seen at Consunji Inc.compound

Please join us in our call to immediately surface Manobo activist John Calaba who was last seen inside the premises of David M. Consunji Inc. (DMCI) compound. 
Calaba, 28,  is the Public Information Officer of KIDUMA, an organization opposed to the logging and mining projects of DMCI, which displaced peasants and Manobo tribes away from their farms and ancestral land.
In the morning of April 30, 2015, Calaba, was sitting in front of his house at Brgy. Salangsang, Lebak, Sultan Kudarat when members of the Consunji company guards namely, Christopher dela Cruz, Loloy Aquino and Jayjay Cruz approached him. The men invited Calaba to the outpost of Consunji guards at Brgy. Sabanal for a meal. Calaba went with them to the Consunji company compound. Prior to the incident, the guards have been persistent in befriending Calaba.

Pull-out the 73rd IBPA from Sarangani Province and stop human rights violations among the Blaan tribe

Please join us in our call for the immediate pull-out of the 73rd IB-PA operating in Sarangani Province that has victimized the Blaan indigenous group in 10 villages in Malapatan, Sarangani province. The military operation is part of the Aquino government’s counterinsurgency program Oplan Bayanihan.

Karapatan HR workers, rights violations victims in Southern Mindanao under attack


On April 26, 2015, at around 9:50 a.m., a man with military haircut wearing light fatigue shirt and short pants was walking back and forth the road, and would tiptoe to look over what was behind the gates of the Karapatan-Southern Mindanao Region office. At the time, those inside the office were Leonora Ricafort and son Jayson; Eduardo E. Regidor and sons Levie, Eduardo Jr. and Jhon Mark; Romnick Talara, wife “Jessa” and son Justin James; Aida Sanduman-Seisa, Primjun ObliandaCabatuan, and Roselyn Tausa (Most of them are victims of human rights violations).They noticed the man because he passed through the road four times. On the 5th time, he stood at the side of the Karapatan office. He looked up to see what was inside the office.

Call for the immediate release of 13 civilians, including a peace consultant of the National Democratic Front of the Philippines

On March 4, 2015, combined elements of the Philippine National Police-Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) and Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) simultaneously raided three houses in Quezon City and Caloocan City in the guise of implementing “Oplan Paglalansag”, a campaign of the PNP to go after illegally held firearms. The raid ended up with the arrest of 13 civilians, including a duly-accredited peace consultant of the National Democratic Front of the Philippines.

Urgent Appeal: Denounce repressive measures of jail authorities against hunger-striking political prisoners

Dear friends,

All 491 political prisoners in detention centers all over the Philippines are on hunger strike and fast to express their urgent plea for freedom, justice and human rights. The hunger strike also coincides with the visit of Pope Francis to the Philippines, as the political prisoners seek the kind intercession of the Pope for their release.

We call on all peace and human rights advocates--individuals, institutions, the Church, people’s organizations, the academe and other groups to support the call of the people of Lacub, Abra in the Cordillera Region, Philippines, for the immediate cessation of the military operations of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) therein and nearby communities.
