US-PH EDCA worsens PH human rights situation

"Try harder in defending your human rights record, Pres. Aquino,” said Karapatan secretary general Cristina Palabay, “because the people know the real score of the human rights situation in the country under your regime. And, with the Enhanced Defense Cooperation Agreement now signed, the human rights situation is bound to get worse before it gets any better.”

Obama-Aquino war agenda hides behind peace and human rights issues

“With the aim to dissipate people’s anger around the world, the master war-monger US President Barack Obama and his puppet Philippine President Benigno Aquino desperately attempts to place out of sight its war agenda by using the all-too-familiar shroud of“anti-corruption, pro-peace and human rights” slogans. The catch phrases, the two expect, would lend a veneer of acceptability to their treachery to the Filipino people,” said Karapatan secretary general Cristina Palabay.

Obama’s visit a pat on the back on Aquino’s HRVs

"The visit of US Pres. Barack Obama to the Philippines, especially to address and hobnob with the Philippine military, is a reaffirmation of support for the Aquino government’s gross human rights violations,” Karapatan secretary general Cristina Palabay said days before the US president sets foot on Philippine soil for a state visit. "Through its increasing funding for the Philippines military’s counter-insurgency program Oplan Bayanihan, the United States Government is equally responsible for the killings, abduction, arrest and detention, torture, and harassment of the Filipinos," Palabay said.

Oppose US Military Base in Kyoto, Japan! Down with US Imperialism!

In solidarity with the Japanese people, Karapatan strongly denounces the construction of an X-band radar base in Ukawa district, Kyotango City, Kyoto.  This new US base in Japan is in line with the US pivot to Asia and the Pacific for its political, military and trade interests in the region.  A new comprehensive trade agreement, the Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement (TPPA) which is a follow through to the World Trade Organization that engendered neoliberal globalization, will lay open all remaining trade restrictions of countries in Asia and the Pacific.
