NDF Consultant says DAP is Aquino’s way of controlling the bureaucracy

A detained peace consultant of the NDFP said the DAP is one of Aquino’s “dictatorial means” to control the bureaucracy.

Roy Erecre, one of the 15 currently detained JASIG-protected peace consultants, wryly asked, “What meaningful development has Aquino started when all he wanted is to control everything through dictatorial means, specifically in the form of the Disbursement Acceleration Program.”

Karapatan welcomes release of POW, asks GPH to reciprocate by releasing political prisoners

“We welcome the release of the four prisoners of war by the National Democratic Front of the Philippines. We view the release as a gesture of goodwill in the peace negotiation with the Philippine government. It is about time the Aquino administration releases political prisoners to reciprocate the NDFP’s act and to honor its commitment as stated in the 2011 GPH-NDFP Oslo Joint Statement,” said Cristina Palabay, secretary general of Karapatan.

PPs end fast, laud people’s show of unity vs. DAP

The political prisoners ended their four-day fast that started in July 25 to July 28, the day BS Aquino delivered his fifth State of the Nation Address (SONA). The political prisoners lauded the “People’s SONA” saying it was a “meaningful show of people’s unity against the presidential pork, the Disbursement Acceleration Program, and all that DAP represents—a corrupt and bankrupt bureaucracy.”

Aquino's SONA: Delusions, lies, crocodile tears--all signs of a beleaguered President

"The web of lies woven by BS Aquino during his SONA on the alleviation of poverty in the country, job creation, and immediate response to disasters reflects his disconnect with the real world. By all indications, the lives of the majority of Filipinos have deteriorated immensely under his watch. Shedding crocodile tears to gain the sympathy of the public is straight out of a poorly made script to save face amid rising people’s protests and three impeachment cases,” Cristina Palabay, secretary general of Karapatan said on BS Aquino’s SONA.

Update on political prisoners’ fast: NBP PPs marched inside NBP compound in peach armbands—SELDA

The political detainees at the New Bilibid Prisons in Muntinlupa joined other political prisoners in the country in holding a fast from July 25 until July 28, in time for BS Aquino’s 5th State of the Nation Address (SONA). The fast intends to highlight the call to “Jail the plunderers, free all political prisoners”.

BS Aquino’s new appointments spell DAP and terror

"Money and terror, terror and money—that’s what the promotion of Maj. Gen. Eduardo Año and
Gen. Gregorio Pio Catapang is all about. Essentially, this also describes BS Aquino’s brand of governance," Cristina Palabay, secretary general of Karapatan said a day before Aquino's State of the Nation Address (SONA).

“Medalla de Horror” for BS Aquino’s 5th SONA

Pres. BS Aquino faces the nation on Monday, July 28, with three impeachment cases slapped against him—two for his presidential pork called Disbursement Acceleration Program (DAP) and one for entering into the Enhanced Defense Cooperation Agreement (EDCA) with the United States government.  All the impeachment cases boil down to BS Aquino’s betrayal of public trust and culpable violation of the Constitution.

Rights group hits OPAPP’s peace business

Karapatan today said the Office of the Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process’ funds from the Disbursement Allocation Program (DAP) is 300-400 percent bigger than its approved budget in the General Appropriations Act (GAA) for 2011 and 2012.

Political prisoners to go on fast up to BS Aquino's SONA

"To show their disgust to the BS Aquino administration, political prisoners start their fast today up to BS Aquino's State of the Nation Address (SONA) on Monday, July 28," announced Cristina Palabay, Karapatan secretary general. Rights groups led by Karapatan and Samahan ng Ex-Detainees Laban sa Detensyon at Aresto (SELDA) staged protest actions in solidarity with the political prisoners' call to JAIL THE PLUNDERERS! FREE ALL POLITICAL PRISONERS!

Rights group signs impeachment complaint vs BS Aquino for EDCA

"For giving away the Philippines to the dogs, BS Aquino should be impeached," said Karapatan Secretary General Cristina Palabay as they signed the impeachment complaint against Pres. Female political prisoners question the construction of "first class jail"--SELDA

Female political prisoners at the Taguig City Jail (TCJ) slammed the BS Aquino government for constructing a "first class jail" meant only for high profile detainees such as pork barrel scammers Senators Bong Revilla, Jinggoy Estrada, Juan Ponce-Enrile, and other personalities like Atty. Gigi Reyes and Janet Napoles.

Political prisoner Andrea Rosal supports impeachment case vs. Aquino

In a statement released from prison, Andrea Rosal extends her support to the impeachment case filed by the anti-pork groups led by the Bagong Alyansang Makabayan against BS Aquino. Rosal said she could not remain silent while Aquino and his cohorts freely plunder the people’s money.

DAP money used to sow terror

“The BS Aquino is financing paramilitaries through the Disbursement Accelerated Program (DAP) and it has cost the lives of many people.  Definitely, this is not ‘good faith’,” Cristina Palabay, secretary general of Karapatan said.

VIP treatment of plunderers further robs the people

Karapatan slammed anew the BS Aquino government for the preferential treatment it accords the jailed pork barrel plunderers, Senators Juan Ponce Enrile, Bong Revilla and Jinggoy Estrada and Janet Napoles.  “It seems they are having a staycation in jail. The plunderers continue to enjoy their heyday in jail, squeezing more of the country’s resources for their security and comfort," said Karapatan Secretary General Cristina Palabay.

Karapatan chairperson assails Human Rights Victims Claims Board

“Martial law victim na, pinahihirapan pa”

QUEZON CITY – Marie Hilao-Enriquez, a well-known martial law victim and one of the members in the Hawaii class suit filed against the late dictator Ferdinand Marcos in 1986, assailed the BS Aquino-appointed Human Rights Victims Claims Board (HRVCB) in a press conference today.

Another pregnant woman illegally arrested in Quezon Province

Case:    Illegal Arrest and Detention

-    Female, 26 years old, four months pregnant, member of the Gabriela-Mauban Chapter

Place of Incident:    Barangay (village) Ilayang Iyam, Lucena City, Quezon Province

Date of Incident:    June 20, 2014

Alleged Perpetrator(s): Joint elements of Philippine National Police Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) and Criminal Investigation and Detection Group,  and Southern Luzon Command of the Armed Forces of the Philippines.

Account of the Incident:

On the evening of June 20, 2014, Maria Miradel Torres was arrested without warrant by elements of the CIDG and Southern Luzon Command (Solcom). The men forcibly entered the house where she was staying in IlayangIyam village, Lucena City, Quezon province.  A policeman said Torres was under arrest for being a member of the New People’s Army (NPA) using the aliases “Alex,” and “Sydney”. Torres insisted to see the warrant of arrest but she was not shown any.

The police took Torres and brought her to the Camp Gen. Guillermo Nakar Station Hospital at the Solcom headquarters in Lucena City.

Torres, 26, who is four-months pregnant, was confined at a hospital in Quezon province from June 11 to 18 due to profuse bleeding. During her stay at the hospital, several men inquired about Torres. A female who introduced herself as “Flor” and who claimed to be the provincial governor’s aide offered assistance. On June 18, Torres was discharged from the hospital and went home to Ilayang Iyam, Lucena City. While traveling home, she and her companion noticed men following them.

Aquino accountable for killings, HR violations under his watch

“BS Aquino’s tactic of sweeping under the rug human rights violations committed under his watch is the same scheme he is now using to cover up his accountability for carting away billions of people’s money under the Disbursement Acceleration Program (DAP). If the use of DAP is unconstitutional and an impeachable offense, so are human rights violations committed during his four years in office,” said Cristina Palabay, secretary general of Karapatan.

Statement of Benito Tiamzon and Wilma Austria-Tiamzon on Supt. Mario Malana

Supt. Mario Malana, Chief of the PNP Crame Custodial Center, and other rank and file police personnel, seem to be sacrificial lambs in the VIP treatment of pork barrel biggies and the overstaying visit brouhaha. His relief from his post, while at first blush seemingly laudable, may actually be diverting the need for sincere attention and pinning ultimate responsibility from the reported sweetheart deals by PNP superiors and mercenary politicians with these high-maintenance celebrity detainees.

Karapatan reiterates call for JUSTICE FOR WILLEM GEERTMAN

"Today, we remember the second year of Willem Geertman’s death with condemnation to the BS Aquino government’s perpetration of impunity and continuing human rights violations. The government can deny the existence of impunity in this country, but cases such as Willem's and other victims of extrajudicial killings show that BS Aquino is a big fat liar," Karapatan Chairperson Marie Hilao-Enriquez said.

Pregnant woman’s arrest a déja vu of Rosal’s ordeal

The Infanta Regional Trial Court Branch 65 approved on July 1, the motion for urgent hospitalization of political detainee Maria Miradel Torres at the Taguig-Pateros District Hospital.

“While we welcome the Court’s decision, we demand Torres’ immediate release for humanitarian reason. Torres, who is four months pregnant, is weak from profuse bleeding and is experiencing threatened abortion. It doesn’t help that she was transferred from one jail to another, and moved back and forth from jail to the hospital for check-up. We say it again, we don’t want another Andrea Rosal here,” said Marie Hilao-Enriquez, chairperson of Karapatan.

B.S. Aquino is no man of peace.

He is hallucinating to ever think he will leave a legacy of peace.  For what he will leave behind him is a legacy of human rights violations  just as vicious as the ones committed by those in power before him.  His insensitivity to the plight of the disadvantaged and marginalized and his utter ignorance of the root cause of restiveness of the poor – the absence of land for the tillers, jobs and decent wage for the workers, home for the homeless, food for the hungry – make him a man for himself and his ilk.
