Not guilty: Eduardo Serrano should be home for Christmas

Mina-Aguda stated in her decision that, "… in the view of the failure of the People to prove the guilt of the accused beyond reasonable doubt, judgement is hereby rendered acquitting accused Rogelio Villanueva @Ka Makling @ Eduardo Serrano of the crime charged." Serrano is among the 20 peace consultants of the National Democratic Front of the Philippines.

More rights violations as APEC Summit takes place

"The BS Aquino government attempts to hide the images of extreme poverty and peoples' resistance in Metro Manila from the APEC delegates as its armed forces intensify operations to silence the people,” Cristina Palabay, Karapatan secretary general as reports of rights violations reached Karapatan.

BS Aquino lies on APEC’s benefits on Filipinos

The BS Aquino government is all set for the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit Economic Leaders Meeting on November 18-19.

Karapatan Monitor 2015 Issue No. 2

Mindanao takes the center stage of BS Aquino’s Oplan Bayanihan.

The massacre of the Lumad leaders Dionel Campos, Juvello Sinzo and Emerito Samarca on September 1 in Lianga, Surigao del Sur brought to the fore the state of human rights in Mindanao and in the whole country under the BS Aquino regime—the unabated political killings, attacks on communities and on self-initiated schools, forced evacuation, among many other military atrocities. The brazenness by which the crime was committed speaks of the climate of impunity that continues to pervade the country.

AFP can’t cover up atrocities vs Lumad by finger pointing

“Karapatan condemns the psy-ops (psychological operations) of the BS Aquino regime and the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), which has become desperate and abominable in an attempt to obfuscate and distort facts on the human rights violations against the Lumad and the Filipino people.  The regime expects to turn public opinion in its favor and to justify further attacks against communities and schools in Mindanao,” said Karapatan Secretary General Cristina Palabay.

We strongly condemn the recent burning of our ALCADEV satellite school in Sitio Km. 30, Brgy. Padiay, Sibagat, Agusan del Sur! At around 2:00 in the morning of November 12, six unidentified men burned down the teachers’ cottage destroying books, school supplies, instructional and learning materials, stocks of rice, power generator set, audio-video equipment, sewing machine, kitchen utensils and farm tools. About 5,000 banana and abaca seedlings in the school nursery of hardwood and fruit trees located adjacent to the cottage were also destroyed.

ALCADEV teachers’ cottage in Agusan del Sur burned down

As the Lumad at Liwasang Bonifacio expect Manila-style dismantling of the Manilakbayan camp tomorrow, November 13, report coming from the Karapatan-Caraga region says that the teachers’ cottage of ALCADEV in Brgy. Padiay, Sibagat, Agusan del Sur was torched at 2 a.m., today by men believed to be under the command of the 23rd Infantry Battalion-Philippine Army.

Aquino, AFP afraid to show skeletons in the closet

“Scared to reveal the skeletons in the closet, Colonel Benjamin Hao?" Cristina Palabay, Karapatan secretary general said in response to Army Spokesperson Col. Hao's threat to deport the foreigners who joined the International Fact Finding Mission (IFFM) held in Surigao del Sur, where the September 1 massacre and other military and paramilitary atrocities were committed.

Manilakbayan, rights groups say DOJ commits, promotes rights abuses via Oplan Bayanihan

"Just like the Commission on Human Rights (CHR), the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and the rest of the BS Aquino agencies, the Department of Justice (DOJ) has been a party to the commission of human rights by implementing Oplan Bayanihan, particularly in filing false charges against activists and in deodorizing the crimes of the regime,” Karapatan secretary general Cristina Palabay said today as the Manilakbayan 2015 contingent from Mindanao staged a protest action in front of the Justice department.

Conflicting lies of AFP, Palace, CHR to protect state perpetrators, Aquino—Karapatan

"The whitewash, cover up and lies of the Armed Forces of the Philippines, Malacañang and the Commission of Human Rights (CHR) on the recruitment of Lumad in the military and Civilian Armed Force Geographical Unit (CAFGU), nevermind if they are conflicting, are directed to one thing—to shield the BS Aquino government from accountability on the Lumad killings," Karapatan Secretary General Cristina Palabay said.
