Eduardo Sarmiento’s Declaration of Fasting

I am on fasting to protest my unjust conviction with reclusion perpetua, which was only based on trumped up charges. On December 11 of last year, the decision of Judge Myra Bayot-Quiambao of Muntinlupa RTC 203 was made with bias.

My fasting is also my protest against the Aquino regime, for violating the Joint Agreement on Safety and Immunity Guarantees (JASIG) and disrespecting the Comprehensive Agreement on Respect for Human Rights and International Humanitarian Law (CARHRIHL) which made way for my arrest and conviction.

This fasting is also in solidarity with the nationwide fasting being done by other political prisoners and human rights defenders protesting against the injustice done to me and other political prisoners in the country.

*Eduardo Sarmiento, a peace consultant for the National Democratic Front of the Philippines, was falsely convicted of illegal possession of explosives. He is currently detained at the Maximum Security Compound of the New Bilibid Prisons (NBP) in Muntinlupa City. Fellow political prisoners in the NBP are also on two-day solidarity fasting in support of Sarmiento.
