"We ousted a dictator before. We can do it again!" This is how the martial law victims and their relatives expressed their resolve not to allow the resurrection of dark days of martial law.
Martial law victims trooped at Noynoy Aquino’s residence in Times Street, Quezon City to remind him that it was not only his father who fought the former dictator but the Filipino people as a whole opposed the fascist, bureaucrat-capitalist and imperialist position of the Marcos regime. Martial law victims held placards bearing signs that shouted "Biktima ni Macoy noon, biktima ni Noynoy ngayon! No to Dictatorship! Never again to Martial Law!"
"We remain vigilant and defiant to any sitting President who pretends to be ‘pro-people, pro-democracy and patriotic.’” The country’s situation has not significantly changed from the time of former dictator Ferdinand Marcos up to Noynoy Aquino’s administration. The country remains to suffer with corruption issues, subservience to U.S. imperialist impositions and human rights violations. And now, Noynoy Aquino has been caught through his own mouth that he wants to perpetuate himself in power by amending the Philippine Constitution. His regime is also set on further selling out the national patrimony. Worse, Mr. Aquino wants to clip the powers of the judiciary as retaliation to its ruling on the PDAF and DAP issues which irritated the President. All these issues were also the similar issues we have stood up against and opposed during the time of former dictator Marcos. What Ferdinand Marcos did is what Noynoy Aquino is now doing." Marie Hilao-Enriquez, SELDA chairperson said.
"We will not be surprised if Noynoy Aquino will persecute the opposition, different religious groups and the progressive sectors that launched campaign against the making of a dictator." Enriquez added.
"But we, the Filipino people will not take these impositions sitting down. We call on our fellow Filipinos to do the same during the fascist regime of Marcos. As we shouted during the dictatorship years, Makibaka, Huwag Matakot!
We shout it now and louder! As long as we are alive, We will not be cowed by Noynoy Aquino’s fascist impositions and legal charades." Enriquez concluded. ###
