Strong international pressure against GMA's reeking human rights record is behind decrease in killings

As we tremble at the thought that the President and Commander-In-Chief doesn't have any compunction in violating human rights - as evidenced by the police's abduction yesterday at the airport of a rich and known personality like Mr. Rodolfo Lozada, Jr., star witness to the anomalous ZTE deal -- we are enraged at the systematic, brazen deception that this regime put out to cover up gross human rights violations.

Arroyo’s AFP day speech insults victims, Karapatan to GMA: continued human rights violations are nothing to brag about

The human rights watchdog Karapatan (Alliance for the Advancement of People’s Rights) assailed Mrs. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo for attributing the “drastic reduction” of political killings as among the achievements of the Armed Forces of the Philippines, saying it is an insult to the victims of rights abuses.

Shoot the Messenger and Save Face

Karapatan’s data and reports, including the Commission on Human Rights in its investigations, the Philippine Congress in its many congressional inquiries, the United Nations in its many committee hearings, among others. Military trying to divert attention from their human rights violations

Butuan City – Unable to deny the massive human rights abuses that drove the now almost 3,000 lumad and settlers to evacuate from more than 12 communities, the military has set its sights on Karapatan who is helping to expose the plight of the Surigao del Sur evacuees.

Rights groups call for investigation of mall bombing as they continue to seek justice for other victims of HR violations

Karapatan and Hustisya commiserate with the bereaved families of our eight compatriots killed and 89 injured in the tragic bombing of the Glorietta 2 mall yesterday.

As we gather today in Plaza Salamanca, Manila, to pay tribute to and demand justice for our loved ones, friends and compatriots who were victims of state violence, we likewise join the nation in seeking justice for the victims of the Glorietta 2 bombing.

We join the call for a thorough investigation, arrest, trial and punishment of those responsible for the blast.

Save the lives of Sherlyn Cadapan and Karen Empeño! Surface them and other desaparecidos!

The families of victims of enforced disappearances under the banner of Desaparecidos and the human rights alliance Karapatan today welcomed the news that the Manalo brothers had escaped their military captors and tormentors. We likewise share the hope of the Cadapan and Empeño families with the news that the Manalo brothers saw Sherlyn and Karen alive.

We laud Raymond and Reynaldo Manalo’s bravery in telling the world of the plight of other compatriots who have been abducted and held in ‘ghost prisons’ by members of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP).

`Melo did not get to the bottom of killings' - KARAPATAN

The Melo Commission turned a blind eye on the glaring fact that the extrajudicial killings under the Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo administration are a matter of state policy.  It did not get to the bottom of the nationwide, systematic extrajudicial killings that is so rampant, even the international community is alarmed.
