Women rights group decry rape by “men in uniform,” scores use of rape under Oplan Bayanihan

On the first day of March as the internationally known Women’s Month, women’s rights group Tanggol Bayi scored the reported rape cases against two women in the provinces of Masbate and Rizal by elements of the Armed Forces of the Philippines as “an indication of the continuing and brazen impunity perpetrated by the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP).”

In an int’l rights conference in London: IMPUNITY AND TERROR CONTINUE UNDER PNOY

“There has been no let-up in the terror and violence especially against human rights defenders under the administration of Noynoy Aquino. Impunity persists because Aquino, despite all his rhetoric on human rights, has been passive in making former Pres. Arroyo and her top generals accountable for rights violations, perhaps because his administration promotes the same brand of terror and violence on the ground.”

Justice, in gridlock on P-Noy’s righteous path

“We want Gloria Macapagal Arroyo in jail. It’s been almost three months since GMA was issued a warrant of arrest yet she remains free and in an air-conditioned hospital room. This is injustice and not what Mike Arroyo claims,” said Marie Hilao-Enriquez, chairperson of Karapatan. Hilao-Enriquez reacted to Mike Arroyo’s “surreal” statement at the Pasay RTC during GMA’s arraignment today that the “case of electoral sabotage against GMA is injustice.”

“With the recent offer of the Philippine Ecumenical Peace Platform (PEPP) to be guarantors for the release of political detainees who are covered by the Joint Agreement for the Safety and Immunity Guarantees (JASIG), we see no reason why the Aquino government should further delay the release of the 12 NDFP consultants and immediately resume the peace talks,” said Marie Hilao-Enriquez, chairperson of Karapatan.

Military atrocities akin to GMA’s continue under P-Noy

Reacting to the statement of GPH chief peace negotiator Alexander A. Padilla that “every act of violence will affect peace talks” and so the NDFP must “lay down arms,“ Karapatan today called the government’s attention saying that it is its acts of violence through Oplan Bayanihan that terrorize and violate the human dignity of the population.

PNOY government’s promise to arrest Palparan a “show off”

“The P-Noy government’s failure to arrest the fugitive Gen. Jovito Palparan more than a month after the Regional Trial Court of Bulacan issued a warrant of arrest allows Palparan and his lawyers to play with truth, justice and sadly, the emotions of the mothers of the two missing students Sherlyn Cadapan and Karen Empeno,” said Jigs Clamor, deputy Secretary General of Karapatan.
