Five years after, kin of EJK victims renew call for justice for Jory Porquia

,

Hustisya, an organization of families of victims of extrajudicial killings and all human rights violations, remembers with outrage the brutal killing of Bayan Muna-Iloilo coordinator Jory Porquia who was shot 14 times in his rented cottage in Iloilo City in the early morning of April 30, 2020.

Forty-two activists who staged an indignation rally a day after Porquia’s killing were even arrested for allegedly violating COVID 19 safety protocols and acquitted only two and a half years later.

Five years to this day, no one has been held accountable for Jory Porquia’s murder. Five years to this day, justice eludes him and his bereaved family.

Porquia was one of 442 documented victims of extrajudicial killing under the Duterte regime. Under Marcos Jr., the killings have not stopped, with KARAPATAN documenting at least 119 victims to date. In fact, extrajudicial killings and other human rights violations can be expected to escalate with Marcos Jr. following to the hilt the repressive Duterte-era policies that had given rise to the horrendous atrocities that marked the previous regime.

Hustisya stands firmly with the Porquia family and with all other families of victims of extrajudicial killing in their continuing quest for justice and accountability for their loved ones.
