Karapatan denounces the arrests of at least 93 farmers, peasant rights advocates including human rights workers and artists, and journalists in relation to the activity of agrarian reform beneficiaries (ARBs) in Brgy. Tinang, Concepcion, Tarlac yesterday morning of June 9, 2022.

The arbitrary arrests and detention of the 93 individuals as well as the undue force used against them show how the Philippine National Police (PNP) is mobilized to protect the interests of those exerting influence over land that has been granted to the ARBs for years.

We call on those poised to file complaints against the 93 to drop these complaints, and for the PNP to immediately release all detained. We call on Rep. Noel Villanueva, incoming Concepcion mayor, to act to stop these forms of harassment against the farmers and advocates. We likewise ask the Commission on Human Rights to ensure that the rights of those detained, their families, paralegals and lawyers are respected.
