Nine Supreme Court magistrates betrayed us – SELDA and CARMMA

The nine Supreme Court magistrates have betrayed the martyrs and heroes who suffered and died at the hands of state security forces of a tyrannical dictatorship. The nine Supreme Court magistrates have betrayed the whole Filipino nation and our history.

The nine Supreme Court magistrates have betrayed the martyrs and heroes who suffered and died at the hands of state security forces of a tyrannical dictatorship. The nine Supreme Court magistrates have betrayed the whole Filipino nation and our history.

We in SELDA and CARMMA are saying it again: Marcos is NOT a hero and he must not be buried at the Libingan ng mga Bayani! This is the resounding cry of martial law victims, civil libertarians, and freedom-loving citizens trooping at the University of the Philippines Diliman in indignation of the Supreme Court decision allowing the burial of Ferdinand Marcos at the Libingan ng mga Bayani.

The vision of intolerable suffering under the Marcos martial rule becomes all the more vivid than ever: the citizens abducted, tortured, and murdered to preserve the US-backed dictatorship.

We deplore the kind of political patronage, which brought the Supreme Court justices, even Pres. Rodrigo Duterte, to give Marcos a hero’s honor.

Burying Marcos at the Libingan is to encourage impunity and the reign of cheats, thieves, murderers, and plunderers as embodied by Marcos and his martial rule. It is a message to the country and the world and the next generations: that in the Philippines, crime – even of the highest order as the rape of democracy — pays.

As we have done before, we re-affirm our commitment to fight against the political rehabilitation of the Marcoses in whatever guise. We will continue to fight for justice for victims of martial law and the Filipino people! No to political accommodation! No to the return of the Marcoses to power!  No to historical manipulation and revisionism! No hero’s burial for the tyrant!
