“The P-Noy government is parroting the US government’s line against North Korea and the alarmist way by which the government is supposedly preparing for its contingency measures is more political in nature—an imagined scenario meant to justify the continued and more aggressive US military intervention in the country,” today said Marie Hilao-Enriquez, Karapatan chairperson.
Hilao-Enriquez added that, “what P-Noy wants is for the Filipino people to rally behind him in his subservient attempt to kowtow to American efforts to provoke war with North Korea. The government does this by inciting the Filipino people to hate Nokor for causing such conjured fear.”
“Rather than assuring that the government will protect the people, the supposed preventive measures and maddening warnings this government issues create more fear and terror to a large section of the populace. In fact, this government should be charged with terrorism for that,” commented Hilao Enriquez.
Karapatan maintains that the people have more reason to be alarmed by the presence of the US troops in the country and the US-inspired Oplan Bayanihan, the counter-insurgency program of the Aquino government. “Oplan Bayanihan, now in full swing, has cost too much damage not only on people’s livelihood but on people’s lives as well—from harassment and intimidation, to arbitrary arrests and detention, torture, forced evacuation, enforced disappearances and extrajudicial killings,“ said Hilao-Enriquez.
“The P-Noy government only wants to show that it toes the US line and supports its demonstration of military force in Asia and the Pacific. What could be more dangerous to the Filipino people than the all-year round presence of US troops in the country and the war exercises they conduct with the Armed Forces of the Philippines?”concluded Hilao-Enriquez. ###
