Young human rights defender to Kitty Duterte: Your father is a butcher, not a victim

“Berdugo ang tatay mo, hindi biktima (Your father is a butcher, not a victim).”

KARAPATAN lambasted Veronica “Kitty” Duterte for portraying her father as a victim despite the fact that he was responsible for the misery of tens of thousands of people under his war on drugs and his brutal counter-insurgency war.

“We all know that Kitty Duterte is a jet-setting socialite who has travelled all over the world, but it sounds more like she just crawled from under a rock whenever she paints her father as a suffering saint,” said KARAPATAN National Council member and environmental activist Jonila Castro.

“How could she not know about the 30,000 drug suspects and the 422 activists killed under her father’s watch?” fumed Castro, an abduction survivor. “She is either feigning ignorance or is the most clueless person alive.”

“It is disgusting to see her acting as cheerleader for her butcher father,” the youth leader said. “Her entire demeanor is an insult to the real victims, those who were tortured and killed under her father’s regime without benefit of due process,” she added.

“Duterte’s condition at the International Criminal Court’s detention center and the rights accorded to him are far better than anything experienced by his victims,” stressed Castro, “and Kitty Duterte knows this.”

“She should really stop playing the victim card, because those who know the truth do not believe a word she says,” said Castro. “Everything she says just grates on our ears. Nakakarindi.”
