Political prisoner Maria Miradel Torres, 26, is expected to deliver her baby today, November 19, 2014. She was brought to the Philippine General Hospital yesterday for a check-up but she was immediately admitted after undergoing medical examination.
Higaonon Nermie Lapatis is a farmer from Valencia, Bukidnon. She is among the more than 300 farmers and indigenous peoples who are with the Manilakbayan ng Mindanao. So far, they have travelled more than a thousand kilometres now going to Metro Manila.
“Sharing similar experiences of landlessness, government neglect and repression, Mindanao and the Bicol region called for an end to BS Aquino’s Oplan Bayanihan. The two areas took the worst blows of military operations and the consequent human rights violations,” said Cristina Palabay, Karapatan secretary general.
As protest-marchers of the Manilakbayan ng Mindanao are expected to set foot in Southern Tagalog region this week, the people of Quezon and various sectors from the region have vowed to unite with their Mindanao counterparts on their march against militarization and landlessness.
