Human rights alliance Karapatan expressed its “full support” for ACT Teachers Partylist Rep. France Castro in filing a complaint of grave threats against former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte at the Prosecutor’s Office in Quezon City.

In an interview at the Sonshine Media Network International (SMNI) last week, Duterte had openly threatened that he would kill Castro and other representatives who opposed his daughter Sara’s confidential and intelligence funds (CIF). Duterte also boasted that as former mayor of Davao City, he used his CIF to kill leftists.

Karapatan Secretary General Cristina Palabay said, “The fact that Duterte and his ilk have the gall to declare open season against their perceived enemies shows that they are able to hide behind the same climate of impunity that shielded them when Duterte was president. This has to stop.”

Meanwhile, Palabay scored the plans by SMNI anchors and National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (NTF-ELCAC) talking heads Jeffrey Celiz and Lorraine Badoy to file counter-charges today against journalist Atom Araullo and his mother, BAYAN Chair Emeritus Carol Araullo, in retaliation for their filing of damage suits against Celiz and Badoy are baseless and despicable.

“Lies and more lies,” decried Palabay. “But these spurious counter-charges will not in any way detract from the legitimacy of the Araullos’ cases against Celiz and Badoy. The latter’s simultaneous filing of counter-charges is also a desperate and pathetic attempt to deflect public attention from Rep. France Castro’s filing of charges against Duterte.”
